Growing up, I was fortunate enough to enjoy a lot of time around Grand Lake since my parents had a lake home there. When I was seven years old, I was running a little 16ft Blue Star with a Johnson 18 hp outboard motor-fishing all day and running trot lines at night all while utilizing my Coleman lantern. This was just the beginning of my lifelong passion for fishing.
In 1988 I got an 18ft flat bottom with a 40 hp tiller steer and I ventured into new territory on Grand Lake known as the Twin Bridges where Neosho and Spring Rivers come together. These two rivers produce phenomenal fishing in the spring for white bass. I soon began to notice people catching monstrous fish known as a spoonbill or paddlefish. These incredible beasts sparked my interest and I've spent the last 30 years learning their habitats and migration movements in order to have successful guide trips. With technological advances, I am able to learn new techniques in harvesting large paddlefish. Within the last year, I've guided fisherman on Grand Lake producing 13 fish over 100 pounds each with 2 over 120 pounds and 2 over 130 pounds. In the last year, I've produced over 80 paddlefish with weights in excess over 100 pounds on other Oklahoma lakes.
We practice and encourage ethical catch and release of these prehistoric monsters. I'm very fortunate to be able to be a part of some of the best paddlefish fisheries in the world due to Oklahoma Wildlife Department practices of catch and release laws. I really enjoy being a part of fisherman landing a fish of a lifetime and cannot wait to see what the next 20 years hold!
